Mount Vernon Police Officer Suspended After Being Arrested For Menacing

A Mount Vernon police officer has been suspended with pay following an arrest for menacing and harassment over the weekend.

Orville Kitson, who pleaded guilty last year to firing his gun without authorization during a late-night incident in 2016, was arrested in Brooklyn on Sunday, Sept. 15, and charged with two counts of menacing, both misdemeanors, and harassment, a violation.

Details of what let to Kitson’s arrest have not been released. Mount Vernon Police Commissioner Shawn Harris has stated that Kitson has been suspended as the department conducts an internal investigation.

Kitson was sworn in as a probationary officer in August 2013. He pleaded guilty to one count of prohibited use of a weapon in April last year after firing his weapon in the middle of a residential street at approximately 4 a.m. on June 12, 2016.
